Almost every home here is an apartment, so our everyday work runs inside finished, strata-managed buildings rather than out in backyards. Six services sit below, and the full picture of what we cover sits on the Newstead home page.

Which Page Fits Your Job
Six pages sit here, and each one takes a different sort of call:
A tap that drips, runs or will not shut off
go to tap repairs.
A toilet that runs, leaks or will not flush
go to toilet repairs.
A shower, bath, vanity or floor waste playing up
go to bathroom plumbing.
Sinks, dishwashers and the gas points behind a cooktop
go to kitchen plumbing.
A water bill climbing with no visible leak
go to leak detection.
Gas points, bayonets and appliance hook-ups
go to gas fitting.
For water that will not stop, a gas smell or sewage inside a living space, start at emergency plumbing instead.

From Gasworks to Apartments on Skyring Terrace
A suburb rebuilt since 2001
Brisbane's second gasworks opened here in 1887, and the heritage gas holder still stands at the heart of the Gasworks retail precinct, ringed by restaurants, cafes and a supermarket. Gasometer Park sits beside it on Skyring Terrace.
Apartments nearly all the way down
Nearly every dwelling counted at the last census was a flat or apartment, 99.2 per cent across 3905 in total. So our jobs start at a unit door, run through common lobbies, and often involve a body corporate manager before the work begins.
The newest chapter is on the old wharf land
The wharves worked this stretch of the river until 1969, and the towers that went up on that land off Waterloo Street are now the plumbing we get called to most.

What We Fix Day to Day
Here is what each of the six services covers:
Tap Repairs
Dripping mixers, stiff spindles and taps that will not shut off are steady work in unit bathrooms and kitchens, and we reseat, rewasher and replace on the spot.
Toilet Repairs
A running cistern or a pan collar leak wastes water into a shared meter, so we rebuild cisterns, swap inlet and outlet valves, and replace worn suites where repairs will not hold.
Bathroom Plumbing
Showers, baths, vanities and floor wastes, from a dripping showerhead through to a full renovation fit-off, all inside finished bathrooms where one leak can show two floors down.
Kitchen Plumbing
Sinks, mixers, dishwashers and cooktop gas points, inside finished kitchens with little room underneath, where we disconnect and reconnect appliances and clear the slow drains kitchen use creates.
Leak Detection
A climbing bill, a damp patch or a stain on a lower ceiling with no obvious source gets traced through walls, ducts and slabs before anything gets opened up.
Gas Fitting
New gas points, bayonet fittings for heaters and barbecues, cooktop and oven connections, plus repairs to existing gas lines, all fall under our licensed gasfitting class in units.

Repair, Replace or Maintain
Not every problem needs the same answer, and the honest split is usually one of three:
Repair it
A sound fixture with one worn part, like a cistern valve or a tap washer, is worth fixing rather than replacing.
Replace it
A fixture at end of life, a rusted unit, or a suite too far gone to rebuild comes out and a new one goes in, with the quote first.
Maintain it
Flexible hoses under sinks and behind washing machines have a working life, and swapping them before they let go costs far less than the flood after.
In a strata building the choice is sometimes the body corporate's, not the owner's, and we are used to writing up what we found so a committee can decide. Whatever the call, the work happens with residents still living in the building.

Wet Riverside Ground and Old Drains
Acid soils under the towers
Council's 1997 screening map for acid sulfate soil covers a large part of the suburb, so any excavation, whether for a pit or a new service run, can release acidic groundwater that attacks buried steel and concrete. We plan digs here with that in mind.
Drains older than the buildings
Stormwater lines had to be laid across this low-lying ground from the mid-1880s, before development could start, and the outlets still empty into the river at Breakfast Creek, where a high tide can hold them under. Stormwater and sewer problems belong over at the drainage page.

Plumbing Questions From Newstead
Call (07) 3067 4274Who owns the pipes inside a Newstead apartment block?
While Urban Utilities looks after the street mains, the owner of a single unit is responsible for its pipes, and the body corporate must maintain any shared risers and common drains.
Can you repair a gas appliance on a Newstead balcony?
Yes, balcony heater and barbecue point repairs fall inside our licensed gasfitting scope, and we bring the parts and fittings a unit visit usually needs so the work finishes in one trip.
Do dripping taps in a Newstead unit need a plumber?
A washer swap is sometimes within a confident owner's reach, but in a strata building a leak into common walls is worth a licensed repair before it spreads through the shared structure.
What makes leak detection different in a tower block?
Water travels down through service ducts and ceilings before it shows, so we trace the path from the lowest visible damage back up towards the true source inside the wall or slab.
Can you move a kitchen sink within a Newstead apartment?
Yes, moving a sink or dishwasher inside one unit is routine work for us, though anything that touches shared structure, common drains or the building's waterproofing usually needs body corporate sign-off before we start.
How do I book a plumber in Newstead?
Call (07) 3067 4274, tell us the job and how we get into the building, and we will lock in a time and pack the van for the work ahead that morning.
